In life, we have to learn that there is no escaping God. ?You can run, but you can?t hide. ?If we slow down and allow ourselves to be found by God, we will find that His intention is never to harm us, but to bless us. God formed us in our mother?s womb to live out His purpose for our lives. ?How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!? (Psalm 139:17) {{more: Read More … }}
The more we know and learn about God, the more we know about ourselves. We begin to see our desire and need for inner purity. This Psalm is deeply personal between God and David.
This Psalm deals with the attributes of this God we cannot escape from. His omnipresence (Psalm 139:7-12; His omniscience (Psalm 139:1-6); His omnipotence as our Almighty Creator. This Psalm concludes with our response to this wonderful God that we cannot escape from.
It?s sometimes frightening, God knows everything about us. He knows our coming and going, our thoughts and our words even before we say them. ?Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is too high, I cannot attain to it?. (Psalm 139:6). Jeremiah 17:9 says, ?The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately wicked; who can understand it?? We are unable to understand or know our motives apart from God. He will reveal these things to us through His Word.
God showed us that sin must be paid for through death. Through the death of His only Son, we have a substitute and through that substitute none of us will ever be separated from God.
Christianity is a very personal relationship with a true and living God who knows and calls us by name.
?You can run, but you can?t hide?. If we run to Heaven, God is there! If we want to run to Sheol, the place of the dead, God is there! If we run to the deepest part of the sea, God is there! And if we run to the ?wings of the dawn? God is surely there!
We would live a much better life and make better decisions if we constantly reminded ourselves that God is with us everywhere we go. John Calvin wisely wrote, ?It is certain that man never achieves a clear knowledge of himself unless he has first looked upon God?s face, and then descends from contemplating him to scrutinize himself? (Institutes of the Christian Religion [Westminster Press]. We can invite God into our lives for He is with us everywhere. We must yield our hearts and thoughts to God and allow the light of God?s love to lead and guide us.
Thanks be to God!
