Milena Balthrop, Kennedale High School English teacher, is retiring after 32 years at the high school and an informal retirement reception has been set for January 10, 2016. {{more}}
The reception is causal (she will be in jeans) and no gifts will be accepted other than your presence. It will be held at the First Baptist Church of Mansfield in the Fireside Room located at 1800 E Broad, Mansfield, TX 76063 from 2-4 p.m. as a drop-in.
Her sister, Sharon, has requested that the word be spread to her former students and colleagues. Besides spreading the word she is also asking for special assistance in two other ways.
First, she is also collecting cards from former students who feel that Ms. Balthrop made a difference for them. Sharon wrote ?I know many of you have posted beautiful comments that have meant a lot to her. However she is an old school teacher ? A card is something she can keep and look back at for years to come. Those of you who can, please attend; those of you who cannot, [with the card] you can still be a part!?
Second, she added, ?I am planning on having a ?Tree of Lives.? Envision a money tree, only instead of money it has green ribbons, each with the name of a life MiLena touched; students, colleagues, friends, family. I would also like to include ‘Fallen Wildcats.’ I know there have been a number of students and former students who’s passing affected her tremendously. I need help with their names and years of graduation so they can be included on white ribbons. Those of you who can attend bring your card and write your name (year of graduation if applicable) on a green ribbon at the reception.
