? ? ?Ruby Mae Kobeck went to be with the Lord and her husband Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, after a brief illness due to complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Funeral: 3 p.m. Tuesday in Emerald Hills Memorial Chapel, 500 Sublett Road, Kennedale. Interment: Emerald Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: Salvation Army or Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.?? ? ?Ruby was born July 15, 1929, in Iona, S.D. She spent the early part of her childhood in Minnesota before moving with her family to Mountain Grove, Mo. In the 1940s, her family moved to Fort Worth, finally settling in Kennedale following the infamous flood of 1949. Ruby worked at various jobs after arriving in Fort Worth, including Williamson Dickie clothing company and Shaw’s Nursing Home, where she served as a licensed vocational nurse until around 1952. She married Thomas John Kobeck Jr. on Nov. 6, 1952, and they enjoyed a loving 41-year marriage together until his death in December 1993. Following her husband’s death, Ruby gave her life to the Lord and was saved and baptized.?? ? ?Ruby enjoyed nature, birds, wildflowers and all the creatures of the earth. It was not unusual for her to nurse an orphaned puppy or kitten to maturity or a sick or wounded animal back to health and she was highly successful in doing so. She also enjoyed watching performances by Elvis impersonator Carlton Hurdle at the Kennedale Burger Box. Further, Ruby had a generous spirit and was always willing to help those in need, either through her numerous contributions to the Salvation Army or her assistance to anyone in need who found their way to her door. She was a superb cook and homemaker, a devoted and loving wife, and the epitome of a good mother and grandmother.?? ? ?After being diagnosed with dementia in 2007, Ruby continued to live at home with her daughter, Thelma Lea Kobeck, and son-in-law, Hawk Kennedy, and actively engaged in helping to share her experiences so that other people could understand that it was possible to live at home with dementia. In doing so, Ruby touched the lives of many people facing similar struggles with dementia who never met her but learned through her example.?? ? ?The family wishes to thank Baylor All Saints Hospital of Fort Worth’s emergency room staff and cardiovascular intensive care unit staff and the Vitas Hospice Unit at Baylor All Saints’ staff for the loving care they provided for Ruby during her final illness. She was greatly loved and respected by many and will be so terribly missed.?? ? ?Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Thomas John Kobeck Jr., and her parents, John Ross Veach Sr. and Virginia Pearl Smith Myer. Survivors: Daughter, Linda Joyce Petty and husband, John, of Monument, N.M.; son, Wilfred Frank Kobeck of Mansfield; daughter, Tricia Cecelia Davis of Rendon; daughter, Thelma Lea Kobeck and husband, Hawk Kennedy, of Kennedale; grandchildren, Misty Davis Wilhelm, Timothy Yarbro, Jeremy Daniel Davis and Ryan Hines; sisters, Angeline Flowers, Delvia Sirois, Irene Gassiot, Mamie Otberg and Dorothy Jamison; brother, John Veach Jr.; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a vast “extended family” of friends and neighbors.??More information, guestbook and directions to funeral – click here:
