School District publishes safety audit results

Last month the KISD Board of Trustees reviewed a required annual safety audit. The report indicated that the district had all required plans and procedures or were in the process of revision/developing of others. {{more}}
 
The audit report indicated the following.
  • All campuses had an improvement plan that addressed a safe learning environment with an Emergency Plan that coordinates with the district?s operation plan.
  • The Emergency Operations Plan addresses multiple hazards including i.e. pandemic health control issues and specific local hazards.
  • Campus plans include detailed site plans and floor plans, procedures for crisis communication, for student accountability in an emergency and for parent/guardian reunification with students after an incident.
  • Last year all campuses practiced – evacuation or fire drills, lockdown drills and severe weather drills. Other drills practiced by some but not all of the campuses included – Shelter-in-Place Drills, Reverse Evacuation Drills and Tabletop Drills.
  • Each campus had a campus safety team in place.
  • All district emergency management team and some of the campus teams have been trained in the National Incident Management System/Incident Command System.
  • The district requires and conducts training for all staff in emergency management.
  • The district has a key (building/room) control policy.
  • Some of the campuses can conduct a lockdown without staff having to enter the hallway to lock the classroom doors.
The report indicates that policies/procedures and training are in place and followed for:
  • visitor access to campuses;
  • receiving and managing deliveries to campuses (in process);
  • receiving and managing all contractors/service providers;
  • identification badges for campus staff and secondary students;
  • identification badges for secondary students;
  • emergency management training for staff;
  • safety and health training programs for staff;
  • an anonymous reporting system;
  • notifying parents/guardians in case of an emergency;
  • identifying, assisting, and addressing students who exhibit early warning signs of violence.
  • infection control;
  • transportation safety; and,
  • stadium safety (in process).
