Open to the public …The meeting will be held on August 24, 2017 beginning at 7:00 PM at the Kennedale High School Media Center, 901 Wildcat Way, Kennedale, Texas. The public hearing will follow proclamations and public comments and before going into the consent and the old/new business as listed on the posted agenda.
The proposed budget represents a 1.51% increase over last year?s budget while the proposed tax rate of $1.48 per $100 valuation of property is a slightly down from last year?s rate of $1.4867. (Note: The proposed rate is below the ?effective rate? of $1.600652. This is the rate that it would take to maintain last year?s maintenance/operations and debt service).
State funding cut replaced by higher evaluations …
KISD budget planners while trying to include pay increase for staff also had to contend with a state funding cut of approximately $292 per student. A salary increase was included in the pared down budget for next year with a 2% increase for non-teaching staff and $1500 for teachers.
What does this mean for taxpayers? The $292 loss per student from the state will be partially made up by higher property evaluations this year. The average homeowner will see an increase of $228 because of rising property values.
