Annual Armed Forces Bowl showcases KHS facilities

 
The 14th Annual Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl is this Friday, December 23 at 4:30 p.m. and will be played at Amon Carter Stadium on the campus of TCU. {{more:Read more …}}
 
The Navy Midshipmen (9-4) arrived in Fort Worth this week to begin prep for game against Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (8-5). The Middies are using the Kennedale High School Athletic Complex for their practices.
 
This is the 8th year that the KHS facilities have been used by a team playing in the annual bowl originally sponsored by Bell Hellicopter according to Athletic Director Richard Barrett. It was chosen for its indoor/outdoor facilties, playing surface, training equipment and the closeness to the TCU and other the DFW venues.

For Navy, who ended the regular season ranked #25 in the final College Football Poll, this is a chance to get another 10 win season and to help ease the memory of the 21-17 upset win by Army in the their big rivalry game a couple of weeks ago.

Louisiana Tech went 6-2 in Conference USA during the regular season, losing to Middle Tennessee State and Southern Mississippi. The Bulldogs won the West Division and were beaten by Western Kentucky (10-3, 7-1), 58-44, in the conference championship game.
 

Louisiana Tech narrowly missed pulling off a major upset in the season opener, falling 21-20 to Arkansas of the Southeastern Conference. The Bulldogs are making a third consecutive postseason appearance for the first time in school.

 
The team is coached by Skip Holtz, the son of former Arkansas head coach Lou Holtz of the old Southwest Conference. Lou Holtz went on to coach at Notre Dame and South Carolina before retiring. Skip Holtz took over the Bulldog program after the 2013 season.
