Wanda Marie Rufner Page, 84, passed Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, into the arms of our beloved Lord and was reunited with those closest to her.

Funeral: Noon Friday at University Christian Church. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood. {{more}}

Wanda was born and raised in Fort Worth, the second daughter of Fred and Alma Rufner. Her childhood began in the Polytechnic area before moving to the “the farm” on the outskirts of town near what is now Kennedale, where she nurtured her love for all animals great and small.

She attended William James Junior High and graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1948. After high school, she enrolled in the University of Texas in Austin, where she graduated in 1953. While attending UT, she met the love of her life and future husband, Dan Page. Dan was the quarterback for the Longhorns and she often said, “All the girls loved him but he picked me.” They were married shortly after graduation and moved to Fort Sill, Okla., where Dan fulfilled his military service commitment before moving back to Fort Worth.

Wanda taught elementary education on base and then for 20-plus years with the Fort Worth ISD before retiring to be a full-time mom to her three sons. She always found a way to make sure the boys were at all the football, baseball and basketball practices and games, all the while entertaining the family friends and diligently serving as a second mom to countless friends of her boys. She continued her love of sports with her adopted home team, TCU. She was a season ticket holder and supporter for the football, basketball and baseball teams where she rarely missed a game.

Much like her father, Fred, Wanda was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. She was fun, vivacious and a joy to be around. She was a member of University Christian Church, the Women’s Club of Fort Worth and Ridglea Country Club. She loved playing golf with her friends and particularly enjoyed her banter with the members and staff. Wanda cherished life, family and the friends who shared it with her. She loved family gatherings, especially the holidays.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; son, Darren; sister, Patsy Sproles; and her parents, Fred and Alma Rufner.

Survivors: Sons, Danny Page and Dr. Derek L. Page and wife, Sheila; grandchildren, Derek Jr., Raleigh and wife, Katy, Cameron, Carly Page, Chevy, Caroline and Allison Goff; and nieces and nephew, Cindi Neverdousky, Cathy Woodard and Courtney Preston Sproles.
