The Kennedale Wildcats (23-10, 12-0) are now playing in their third season ?the UIL Playoffs. And the playoffs have been good for the Wildcats. Kennedale is on familiar territory. {{more:Read more …}}

It is the 19th time since 1996 but it is the ninth time in the last 10 years that the Cats have made an appearance. The Wildcats have made it to the ?Sweet Sixteen? five times in the last 6 years.

This Tuesday, the Cats, as the top seed out of District 7-4A, will play the #4 seed out of District 8-4A, the Glen Rose Tigers (13-9, 6-7). Glen Rose had a one-game playoff against Alvarado to determine 4th place in the district, winning 49-45. The Tigers finished behind Midlothian Heritage (27-5, 12-1), Life Waxahacie (26-8, 11-2) and Stephenville (9-19, 6-6).

what the future holds …

The winner of this game advances to play in the area round against the winner of the Burkburnett vs Big Spring game.

Burkburnett (24-6, 6-2) finished 2nd in District 6-4A behind Hirschi (17-7, 7-1). Big Spring (5-23, 3-5) finished as the 3rd seed out of District 5-4A.

There is no easy path for Kennedale beyond the first round. If rankings are followed, it should be Kennedale vs #18 Burkburnett this weekend in the area game. The following region quarterfinal round should see the winner of area round play #16 Midlothian Heritage (27-5, 12-1). After that the regional semifinals will likely be against #20 Lubbock Estacado (20-10, 7-3) or #21 Levelland (23-8, 6-4).

In the Region I title game the opponent from the bottom half of the bracket should be #4 Abilene Wylie (27-4, 8-0) but there is an outside chance for #9 Seminole(18-12, 8-2) or #12 Wichita Falls Hirschi (18-8, 7-1).

The Wildcats face long odds in this playoff, but this year?s team has demonstrated some remarkable steadiness and composure throughout the season. They are not easily intimidated and, like all Groff teams, they are disciplined and well prepared. If things fall their way, these Wildcats could be the surprise team of the region.
