AAA predicts that 48.7 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more for the Thanksgiving holiday this year about one million more than last year and 3.9 million will be Texans. {{more:Read more …}}

This is the most for any holiday since 2007. It will mark the eighth consecutive year that more Americans traveled for the holiday than the year prior.

Thanks to an improving economy, rising wages and upticks in consumer spending, nearly nine in 10 people will travel by automobile thanks to the second-cheapest Thanksgiving gas prices since 2008.

The national average price for a gallon of regular gas was $2.16 on Tuesday. In all, American drivers have saved $28 billion this year at the gas pumps thanks to record-low prices, an incentive for the 43.5 million travelers projected to hit the road this Thanksgiving, the most since 2005.
