Eight straight state contests – but special help is requested in year of Covid …
The following was posted on the Kennedale Wildcat Band Facebook page and was reprinted, in part, here.
Despite the craziness around us, uncertain times, pandemics, virtual learning, etc… the award-winning Kennedale High School Wildcat Marching Band has done it yet again! That’s right, on December 14th, we head to San Antonio for our 8th consecutive run in the UIL 4A Marching Band State Competition.
In continuing a tradition of excellence Kennedale has made the state level competition the last 7 times before and finished 5th in the state in 2014, 8th in 2016, and 5th in 2018.
We, like all bands this year, have had to adapt to an ever-changing set of guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all of our students and despite this constant state of flux, our students have put together an amazing show that just won 2nd at UIL Area completion and advances us to the State competition.

Unable to fund-raise using traditional methods …
Our [KISD] District leadership continues to be extremely supportive of our band program. [But] as in years past, we are raising funds to help offset the cost of traveling to San Antonio for the finals. The WBC tradition is to raise funds amongst the parents, grandparents, family, friends, alumni and other Wildcat Band supporters in our community to pay for our students to travel in actual charter busses rather than the yellow school busses.
We also try and help with some of the other expenses and things that make the trip a success and memorable for the band. We have set a minimum goal of $10,000 which is the base amount we need to cover the commitment we have to our children to get there. This has been a particularly rough year for everyone but one of the many fallouts of current COVID regulations is we aren’t able to have any of our annual fundraisers …
We ask only that [if you would like to contribute] you give what you can to help these 150 students that have dedicated countless hours and sweat to continue a tradition of success.
By the way, if you are part of a company that will match your gift, feel free to contact us directly to coordinate that opportunity. If your company would like to sponsor the Wildcat Band at a more meaningful level, we would love to talk to you too. A donation of $50 would sponsor one band member ($500 would sponsor 10).
Any funds not needed for the state trip will be directly applied to supporting the band program and our students.
All donations to the band are tax-deductible and we can provide you the appropriate documentation for your support.
Thank each of you for your support of our amazing Wildcat Band program. Without our directors, parents, families, and our community supporting our students, these successes would be nearly impossible.
