KHS Basketball off and running with a mix of early losses and wins

The KHS Lady Kats (3-4) and the Wildcats (3-2) have already been mixing it up with a variety of opponents. Both teams are having to replace some key positions. The Lady Kats are replacing 3 all-district players while the Wildcats are in the position of filling 6 all-district performers each due to graduation.

Kennedale Lady Kats …

The Lady Kats have garnered early wins again 5A Crowley 71-64, 5A Richland 55-54 and 6A Arlington Lamar 64-62 (this one in double overtime). Losses have come at the hands of 5A Brewer 66-76, 5A #19 Mansfield Legacy 27-78, 4A #13 Sunnyvale 43-54, and 6A Coppell 30-58. Head Coach is Rhonda Jackson.

The Lady Kats will play next week at Mansfield 6A Lake Ridge, Tuesday, December 1 followed by a home game on Friday, December 4 at Euless 6A Trinity. Varsity games are scheduled for 6:30 for both games.

Last year the Kats finished 23-14 and swept district play 12-0 and made it to the area round of the UIL State Basketball Championship Tournament. Head Coach is Rhonda Jackson. Assistant Coaches are Rod Peterson (JV) and Travis Jones (FR).

New district for both teams …

This year the Lady Kats and the Wildcats play in a new district – District 10/4A. The district is composed of Arlington Summit International Prep, Carrollton-Farmers Branch Ranchview, Dallas Oak Cliff Faith, Dallas Harmony Nature & Athletics, Irving North Hills Prep and Dallas Williams Prep. Kennedale and Ranchview are the only non-charter/private schools in the district this year. Williams Prep has recently announced that they will not field a basketball team this year.

Kennedale Wildcats …

The Wildcats have earned three early wins over Anna 53-43, Granbury 81-47, and Celina 63-59. They have 2 losses this season so far coming against Decatur 75-61 in the first game of the season and then this past week against Argyle 55-60. Argyle (3-0) is currently ranked #3 while Decatur (4-1) is ranked #7.

The Wildcats will play at home next week at Alvarado, Tuesday, December 1 followed by a home game on Friday, December 4 at Brock. Tuesday’s varsity game will be at 8:00 pm and Friday’s varsity game is set for 7:30 pm. See schedule.

Last year, the Cats finished 26-10, 11-2 and were the winners of District 9/4A while making it two rounds in the UIL State Basketball Championship Tournament. Head Coach is Doug Groff with Assistant Coach Matt Munson, Matt Casey (JV) and Roger Klasnick (FR).
