The Kennedale Lady Kats team (12-2) is currently ranked #11 in Texas Class 4A by the Texas Association Basketball Coaches (TABC).
In other polls, MaxPreps has Kennedale at #13 while the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) has them tied at #10. Note: The TGCA has not been updated this week.
So far this season, the Kats have beaten a number of 5A and 6A teams, winning one tournament along the way while falling to two top 4A teams. One of those losses went into double overtime.
And, the season is really still in the early stages.
Building on last year …
Last year the team was rebuilding, going 8-13, yet surged at the end of the season making it into the 3rd round of the UIL playoffs.
In the first round, the Kats defeated Aubrey 58-50, upset a strong Godley 51-47 in the second round, and in the third fell to Dallas Pinkston 47-38. (It has to be noted that Kennedale lost to Godley earlier in the regular season 61-51 and that Dallas Pinkston went on to make the final four before losing out in the state semi-finals 42-40 against Canyon.
Most of that Lady Kat team has returned this year.
