December 23 Galatians 4:4-7 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir. God as my Father? This was such a foreign concept to my close friend, when together, we began to learn about God. She grew up in a home without a father. Not just an absent father, but a father that abandoned her family for another. So the idea of worshipping a God who said He wanted to be her Father was a bit scary and not something she was interested in. As a child and a young adult, she struggled with feeling good enough, worthy of unconditional love and worth sticking around for. She made terrible life choices that continued to feed into that mindset. But as she came face to face with God and His heart and desires for her, her life was changed! God began to do things in her life that were so full of love, forgiveness, and hope that she couldn’t help but want to know Him more. As she studied God’s word and was loved on by God’s people, she saw His unconditional love for her. The love of a Father that she had always desired. He began to heal the deep wounds in her life and show her where His goodness was in all those times she was completely hopeless and broken. And today she stands on the truth in Galatians 4:7- “..you are no longer a slave but God’s own child.” I am no longer a slave/victim to the brokenness I grew up in, but I am a victor IN Christ! I challenge you today to look at your life. Reflect What has God freed you from? What are the beautiful inheritances He is sharing with you as His child? Pray Father, Thank you for being my Dad! Thank you for your unconditional love for me. I love you! Amen. |
We will continue to count down the days until the birth of the Christ Child together through these times of reflection back to what was happening in Bible times and, as we look ahead on our own lives and how we are preparing to celebrate this miracle and how to share His love with everyone we know. I hope you will join us daily, via this email to you or on my Kennedale News column each day at 10:00 am, as we spend a little time in God’s Word. Have a wonderful Advent. I miss you all and I ‘wish you a Merry Christmas! “I don’t know how, but I know Who!” Peace, Pastor Nelda We ask you to remember the church and it’s ministries and outreaches that are still going on, even in this time of COVID19.
