CHANGING YOUR THOUGHT PATTERNS! “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV)

What you find yourself doing is often a result of what you spend time looking at and thinking about. Our lives move in the direction of our strongest thoughts. My question to you this morning is: “Do you like the direction your thoughts are taking you?”

In Philippians 4:8–9, the apostle Paul writes, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

In these verses of the scripture, Paul moves from thought (“think about such things”), to action (“put it into practice”), and to experience (“the God of peace will be with you”). He tells us that our thoughts shape our lives and they influence our environment.

Often times, we find ourselves thinking of our past failures, how things are not going exactly as we planned or how our health & finances are gradually deteriorating and it’s causes us to worry about the future. The truth is, when we spend time worrying, our actions are wrong, because nothing good comes out from worrying. Worry only gives birth to fear and fear brings torment.

The dictionary defines ‘Torment’ as something that causes extreme physical or mental pain. That’s why research has shown that many problems; from eating disorders to relational challenges, addictions, and even some forms of depression and anxiety, are rooted in faulty and negative patterns of thinking. Treating those problems begins with changing our thinking.

I encourage you to focus on today. Start thinking praiseworthy things, and spend time doing things that strengthens your mind, body and spirit. Master the simple truths that God has out in your life today! (Matthew 6:34) What you have today is sufficient, enough for your today’s needs. Focus on what is at hand, what matters now and God will crown your efforts with success.

Remember, when there’s a tension in your life, it’s a sign that you need to surrender everything to God. Because worry is about who is in control. You are worried because you want to be in control. Change your thought pattern and allow God to renew your mind by saturating you with His unchanging truth.
