Two xcross runners for KHS advance to state meet

Kennedale runners Brandon Haub (JR) and Betty Bajika (SR) earned a place in the upcoming UIL State 4A Cross Country Meet based on their times at the Region II meet held last week in Dallas.

In the 2-mile run for the women’s portion of the meet, Bajika finished 15th overall with a time of 12:33.34. Earlier at the district meet, Betty had the top time at 12:25.74. This is the first year for Bajika to compete for the Lady Kats Cross Country team.

Haub finished in 11th place at the regional meet with a time of 16:19.17. Earlier at the district meet, Brandon earned first place with a time of 16:16.51.

As a sophomore last year, Brandon finished 2nd in the 9/4A District Meeting and later he was 45th out of 178 runners at the regional meet with a time of 17:31.88. His district time last year was 16:54.23.

Lady Kat Team results …

The Lady Kats had 6 other runners beside Bajika competing. Sanvanna Danner (JR) finished 27th with a time of 12:58.07. Also competing were Claudia Louro (JR) 13:31.75, Leah Cantrell (FR) 13:42.78, Delilah Martinez (JR) 14:34.73, Kara Williams (FR) 15:27.44 and Shelby Shallcross (Jr) 17:00:30.

Overall there were 125 runners, representing 16 4A schools. As a team, Kennedale finished 6th. The top team was Celina followed by Kaufman and Waxahachie Life. The top runner was Adele Clark (JR) from Celina with a time of 11:19.42 in the 2-mile.

Last year the Lady Kats finished 11th as a team and one runner from KHS advanced to the state meet. Sarayas Flores (SR) had a time of 12:21.74 earning 6th place.

Wildcat Team results …

Justin Walker (SO) finished 25th with a time of 17:19.09 for the Wildcats. Others competing were Adrian Gonzalez (SO) 17:19.09, Carlos Gonzalez (SO) 18:33.72 and Alexander Cruz (JR) 19:14.99.

Overall there were 126 male runners competing and 15 schools represented. The Wildcats, as a team, finished in 9th place. Melissa finished as #1 followed by Kilgore and Longview Spring Hill. The top runner was Judson Greer (SR) from Melissa with a time of 14:53.98.

Last year the Wildcats placed 16th at the regional meet.
