The Kennedale Wildcats (3-4, 2-0) are the visiting team Friday night at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton, Texas, home of the Ranchview Wolves (3-4, 0-2), game time is 7 pm.
Background …
The high school is in Irving but it is part of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.
The Ranchview campus first opened in 2002 with 8th and 9th grades. It did not become a full high school with grades 9-12th until the 2005-2006 school year. It serves students in Irving, Coppell, and Farmers Branch.
At the beginning of the season, Ranchview reported 22 lettermen returning including 6 starters on offense and 9 on defense
A little game history …
Last year Ranchview finished 2-8. That has been much of the story for the 20 years of playing football. The Wolves had success in 2019 with a 9-2 record and in 2014 with a 9-3 season. There have been several more winning seasons through the years.
Kennedale and Ranchview have played three times with the Cats leaving the field with a big win. Kennedale first played the Wolves in a home and away series in the 2010 and 2011 seasons and then again in first-round playoff action in 2017. Kennedale won that game 59-14.
Kennedale and Ranchview also crossed paths in the 2008 UIL State Boys Basketball tournament. The Wildcats defeated Ranchview 66-65 in double overtime in the regional quarterfinals. Kennedale went on to win the state title that year. (Note: Ranchview did start strong in basketball with its first full season ending in the 3A State Finals in 2006.)
The Head Coach for the Wolves is Richard Leonard. He is in his second year.
Remaining regular season games …
Kennedale will stay at home next week when the Cats play the Lake Worth Bulldogs at 7:30 pm in Wildcat Stadium.
The final game of the regular season will be against Alvarado, an old rival and the current undefeated district leader, on October 8th. This will be a road game with a 7:30 pm kickoff.
