? ? ?Twenty seven Kennedale 8th graders participated in touring the Capital and many other historic sites during Spring Break. The group sponsored by Ms. Lawren Jensen, Ms. Carol McCormick left early Monday morning and arrived in DC around noon.?? ? ?The Tour took off immediately to visit Arlington Memorial Cemetery, the Arlington House (home of Robert E. Lee), the changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, visited the Lincoln Memorial, and finished the day at Union Station for dinner. {{more}}?? ? ?The next three days were filled with more exciting and historical tours. The tours included visiting Mount Vernon, Smithsonian, a walking ghost tour of Georgetown, a public and private tour of the Capitol, a visit to Representative Bill Flores‘ office using the underground tunnels between the Canal Building and the Longworth Building, a White House walking tour and great food at a local Pizza Parlor.?? ? ?It even seemed that President Obama was tailing us. Security and streets were blocked while the students were visiting the White House, and then again while they were at dinner at the pizza parlor, Obama and all of his secret service blocked off the entire block for a party he was having at hotel across the street.?? ? ?The students that traveled to DC were: Cierra Bently, Cierra Bortzfield, Eric Brosig, J. D. Carnes, Ashon Carter, Angelica Castro, Zach Culpepper and his cousin Julie Gilley frrm S. Dakota, Alyssa Gaston, Kahlin Gidding, Johnathan Hart, Tiffany Haywood, Trevor Malone, Spencer Murchison, Vanessa Reed, Zach Saxon, Brighan Schwind, Liam Sperry, Hannah Spradley, Carlos Torre, Chrislyn Trammell, Alyssa Trickey, Catalina Martinez, Matthew Weckherlin, Rhane Woods, Chayton Yardley, and Austin Zimmet.?? ? ?Article submitted by trip organizer Carol McCormick, KJHS Social Studies teacher.?
