This is one of a series of articles introducing the six candidates for KISD Board of Trustees. The election will be held on May 11th. Early voting begins on April 29 and ends on April 7. Early voting does include Saturday and Sunday voting hours. All voting is done at the Kennedale Community Center, next to the Kennedale Library. A public forum sponsored by KISD will be held Tuesday, April 16 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Wildcat Auditorium inside Kennedale High School. It will provide a chance to see, hear and meet the candidates running for office.There are two candidates running for Place 7, John Hunt and Stephanie Vigil. ?JOHN HUNT:
“I chose to run for my initial term in 2009 because I am proud of our community and our schools. We brought our family here because we all fell in love with K-town. I believe our schools are the envy of our region. Consequently, when the opportunity arose to serve our children, our parents, and our tax payers by serving on the School Board, I considered it an opportunity and a personal duty to do so.
As many of you may or may not know, last year my wife made application and was subsequently hired to be the counselor at James A. Arthur Intermediate here in Kennedale. When she and I decided she would pursue that opportunity, there was only one honorable thing for me to do. In order to avoid any hint of nepotism or impropriety of any sort, I resigned my post on the Kennedale School Board. However, I never lost my sense of obligation to the district and to the community. In my time on the board, the district invested in my first and second year training for Board Members. This training is indispensible for a board member to be effective in his/her service. The circumstances which caused me to step away from the Board at that time are now behind me. My desire to serve our school district has never been stronger than it is right now. So, the bottom line of why I am running again is simple?I want to finish what I started.”?“If someone wonders why our community should favor me with this seat, I can only say that my experience has given me a unique understanding of what it means to be a Board Member. I understand that being 1 of 7 means we act only as a group and never as individuals. I also know something about the positive influence that we exert throughout our district when the 7 act as 1 voice for the children and families of our community! John Hunt, board member since 2009.?
John was born in Indiana, but he grew up living either in Texas or upstate New York as the family followed his dad on job transfers. He attended college in Lubbock, TX. Starting at Texas Tech and finishing a bachelor of science in business administration with a minor in political science just up the street at Lubbock Christian University; where he met his wife Kim. John and Kim were married in Vernon, TX in 1988 and lived in Childress, TX as John entered his family?s library furnishing business. They moved to the Irving, TX in 1990, Arlington in 1991, and Kennedale in 2009. John?s wife Kim was an elementary teacher for 14 years before becoming the counselor at James A. Arthur Intermediate in 2012.

STEPHANIE VIGIL:?“I was Born and raised in Southern California. Moved to Arlington, Tx in 1995 to attend Texas Wesleyan University where I obtained a Bachelor Degree in Psychology. I am married to my high school sweetheart Manuel for 14 years now. We have 2 boys that attend schools in Kennedale, a 7th grader at the jr high and a 4th grader at R F Patterson elementary.”
?“Currently I work for Arlington ISD and previously have been a substitute teacher for Kennedale ISD.
Currently I serve at the campus level for school functions such as working the concession stand for sporting events, help out with the book fairs, also help assist planning activities with room mom, and I also serve on the SHAC (student health advisory council) which is district wide as well as state mandated.”?“I have chosen to run for the Kennedale ISD school board because I would like to provide a strong representation of the Arlington residents within the district, especially help represent the R f Patterson side.”?“My goals if elected to the board would be to improve communication throughout the district, especially with community members and to encourage community involvement with decision making. Also to focus more on the students and the classroom.”
