Trei Pitre, the grandson of Franklinton residents Weldon and Iris Foxworth, has signed a letter of intent to attend Howard Payne University and play football for the Yellow Jackets.??It was a surprise because halfway through the recruiting process, I didn?t have many looks except for a few e-mails,? Pitre said. ?I started to give up on playing college football. When Howard Payne called, it was a great feeling because somebody wanted me and was paying for my education for me to play football.? ?{{more}}?The safety/cornerback/outside linebacker said once he committed to Howard Payne, other schools offered, but he had his mind on playing for the Yellow Jackets since they offered first.?This season, Pitre, who graduated from Kennedale High School in Texas yesterday [May 8], was a first-team All-District 6-3A safety. He recorded 51 tackles, forced a fumble, intercepted a pass and broke up four. ?For his career Pitre finished with 155 stops, five fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown), three forced fumbles and eight pass break ups.
?Pitre (5–9, 174) said his strengths are his ability to focus on what he?s taken from film and bring it to the field, along with hitting people hard.?Pitre was selected to play in the North American All-Star Bowl June 15 at Pennington Field in Bedford, Texas. It features the all-district players from the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.?Outside of football, Pitre powerlifted this year for the first time and made the state meet as an alternate. He said he benches 320 pounds and squats about 500. ?In track, Pitre ran both hurdle events, the 110 and 300 meters. ??In college he plans to major in accounting with a finance emphasis.?Pitre is the son of Cruz and Michelle Shepherd Pitre (formerly of Franklinton). He is the great-grandson of Clara B.
