Kennedale has it first preschool and daycare facility to open in several years. Rising Stars Preschool, 619 Little School Road in Kennedale, has only been open a couple of weeks but it already has a number of children enrolled.

A combination of preschool, mother?s day out and day care program, Rising Stars Preschool accepts children 18 months through 5 year olds. The facility is approved for 22 kids. It meets all state and city codes and requirements and is licensed by the State of Texas through the Department of Families Services. {{more}}

Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Preschool starts at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m. but the school has extended care from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for working parents, parents that are teachers or work from home. The school does offer 2, 3 and 5 day options.

Cammy Herrera, director and owner, had hoped to open before school started in August but ?it was just the way things worked out.? Her and her husband, who is an Arlington firefighter, wanted to make sure the renovation of the building was completely done and met all codes before she opened the door.

Herrera is not new to the business. She has operated her preschool in Mansfield for eight years before moving the school and childcare to Kennedale this year. Her two oldest children are enrolled in Fellowship Christian Academy in Kennedale. She and her husband liked the area. Besides she said, ?Mansfield has a day care on almost every corner.?

Herrera, a certified kindergarten teacher, got into the business after searching unsuccessfully to find a program that fit the needs of her own children. After long hours of searching and complaining her husband finally told her that she needed to start her own school. And, she did.

Rising Stars Preschool uses a state approved curriculum. It covers all the core subjects: math, science, English, writing, etc. ?It is pretty much covers it all, so much so, that they are ready a hundred percent plus when they go to kindergarten,? said Herrera.

She added, ?Kindergarten readiness [is our goal] and that doesn?t only just mean educationally, that also means social and motor-skills development. Social development is actually one of the biggest problems that kindergarten teachers see ? as far as kids not being ready. Parents don?t realize how much,” she said. “They teach them all day at home their ABC?s, colors, counting and all those things but sharing, caring, developing friendships are important skills that they need to know. So we really focus on those.?

Her and her husband are trying to develop a presence in the community ?We are new to the area ? in Mansfield, I would go into a business and everybody knew me,? said Herrera. ?I am trying to get that feel in Kennedale where I know everybody or at least know who everybody is.?

The school has two up-coming community events. The first is Thursday night at CiCi?s pizza on Little Road in Arlington from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will also been a booth for the preschool at the tail-gate party sponsored by the Kennedale Educational Foundation at next week?s Homecoming game on Friday, September 20th.
