UIL has posted the new realignment for 2014-16. This is a highly anticipated event every two years that is preceded by months of speculation not unlike the Oscars. It also is just speculation as the actual realignment is one of the best kept secrets in the State of Texas.
Today coaches, principals and superintendents across the state were hunched in front of computer screens waiting the new assignments. {{more}}But, it was not just football or athletics that prompted this intense interest. This is the time that budgets are being written for next year. How much travel expenses will teams in athletics, fine arts and academics have to budget? Realignment has a ripple effect through all these programs.
This year has an added wrinkle in that UIL has determined that districts for football only will be divided into two divisions, small school and large school for Class 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A. Kennedale already knew it was going to be in Class 4A, Division 1. (UIL did away with the Six Man Class by renaming it Class 1A. Everyone else was bumped up one class with the largest schools moved into a new Class 6A).
Divison 1, Class 4A is for schools with enrollment 686 ? 1059 which includes Kennedale High School. Kennedale had reported an enrollment of 978 on October 25, 2013. (Division 2, Class 4A is for schools from 465 ? 685). Kennedale?s new district for football only is District 5/1-4A. Kennedale?s old rivalry with the Alvarado Indians will be rekindled for 2014-15 along with four teams from Kennedale current district. See 4A
Football Division 1 Alignment

- Alvarado

- Lake Worth
- River Oaks Castleberry

This is not the district for basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball or track. For these sports Kennedale is in District 7-4A. There is no small/large division so the district membership is a little different and in this case one less school. Kennedale has been in a district with each of these schools in the past with the exception of Godley. See 4A
Basketball/other sports alignment
