It was everything both coaches thought it would be. The Kennedale Lady Kats push Godley to the limit before losing 3-1. No set was won or lost by more than 2 points. Match sets for Kennedale-Godley were 26-28, 23-25, 25-22 and 23-25.
KHS Head Coach Jennifer Patterson said the teams were very evenly matched but the difference was in the power hitting of Godley, something the Kats are working on this week.
Godley (3-0 in district) under longtime coach Todd Weese is continuing its winning ways after moving up to 4A this season. But this game didn?t change his earlier opinion when he had said, ?From what we have seen and heard about Kennedale, it sounds like they are the team to beat [in the district].? The Kennedale Lady Kats are trying to establish a reputation as a consistent area volleyball power. In recent years Kennedale has made it to the playoffs as the second place team in district. The Kennedale volleyball program has won the first round of b-district play but it has been stopped in area playoff games. This year they are playing for a district and an area championship.
Despite the Tuesday night loss, both are still very possible. Kennedale has been playing well after a bruising pre-district season playing mostly 5A and 6A teams.
Kennedale, 2-1 in district, will have another chance at Godley at home on October 24 in a 4:30 p.m. game.
In the meantime, the Kats will be continuing their run through district. Kennedale wraps up first round play with a game Friday night at home against Venus with an early game time at 4:30 p.m. followed by a Tuesday 6 pm game at Alvarado.
