For the first two months of the year, 10,231 homes were sold in the 29-county North Texas region, down 1 percent. The median home price, however, was $186,500, or up 10 percent, according to the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M

Home sales were down in many Tarrant-area markets. A couple of bright spots were in Grapevine, where sales were up 55 percent in February, and Kennedale, where sales were up 40 percent. Sales fell 38 percent in far southeast Arlington, figures show.

Homes are still selling faster than they are coming to the market. At the end of February, sales were pending on 6,239 homes, which is up 9 percent from a year ago.

Housing economists have forecast a strong home sales market for 2015, citing an improved U.S. economy and lower unemployment.

Home sales nationwide are expected to increase by 9 percent this year, and housing starts by 14 percent, according to CoreLogic market data and analytics firm.
