Wildcat Baseball Update

April 7 Alvarado 7-1 (W)

Playing on Alvarado?s field the Kennedale Wildcats (9-5-1) claimed their second win this season over the Indians (2-10, 2-5) by a score of 7-1.

Austin Eggleston for Kennedale got the win, going seven innings with nine strikeouts, allowing no earned runs, two hits and one walk. In 88 pitches he threw 55 strikes and got nine ground/fly outs.

The Cats started slow but steadily built a lead. The first score came with 2 outs when Jake Michener walked, stole 2nd and scored on a single by Cody Bossaller. Another run was added in the 2nd on two walks (Tyler Perez, Alan Sather), a ground ball fielder?s choice (Shane O?Connor), a sacrifice by TJ Aquilar and an Alvarado error which scored Sather.

Alvarado scored their first and only run in the bottom of the 2nd with a ragged inning by Eggleston who hit two batters but he recovered nicely to put out the minimum 3 batters over 4 of the next 5 innings and faced only 4 in the other.

The Wildcats scored two runs in the third with walks by Steven Murchison and Bossaller and a single by Michener. In the top of the 5th, the Cats added three more runs on singles by Murchison, Michener and Bossaller and a double by Eggleston.

April 10 Decatur 14-6 (L)

Kennedale, playing at home, started out strong after Decatur?s first three batters got no further than the batter box. Lead-off batter Steven Murchison singled to left field and the scored after Shane O?Connor and Jake Michener loaded the bases with blunts. After 1 it was 1-0 Kennedale.

But the Cats had trouble on the mound with four different pitchers allowing a combined 14 runs on nine hits, walking/hitting 10 batters while getting just six strike outs.

The second inning was the Cats downfall when Decatur scored 7 runs on just two hits, 5 walks and 2 hit batters. It was almost matched by the 5 run 7th.

It was not for a lack of hitting by the Cats who out hit Decatur 10-9. Aaron Williams went 3 for 3 with a single, double and triple. Michener when 2 for 3 with a single and a triple. Also getting hits along with Murchison and O?Connor were Cody Bossaller, TJ Aquilar and Bryce Hackett.

Establishing consistency has been a problem this season. The earlier bad weather limited playing time. And, according to Head Coach Paul Trantham, the lineup has not been the same in any two games since the beginning of the season due to injuries, conflicts with other sports and an earlier suspension served by several team members for a team rule’s violation.

But both Trantham and Assistant Coach Richard Earle still feel good about the team and say that there is a lot of talent and leadership on this team. Getting it to come together in time for the playoffs will be the challenge.

Kennedale sits in first place in District 7-4A at 7-1 with Venus a half of game back at 6-1. Godley is in 3rd place at 3-4, Alvarado 4th at 2-5 and Diamond Hill 5th at 0-7.

Game time vs Diamond Hill is 7:30 p.m. at Diamond Hill.
