Corey Taylor (KHS 2011) a senior at Texas Tech has been named to the All-Big 12 Team.
Taylor is leading the country with a 0.34 ERA allowing just two earned runs in 52.1 innings pitched. He is 3-0 with two saves while striking out 30 batters and allowed 12 walks while opponents have batted .183 against him this season. {{more}}
He is the first Red Raider reliever to earn All-Big 12 first team since 2002 (RHP Steve Rowe) and is just the third Tech reliever to be recognized on the first time in school history. Taylor is also an Academic All-Big 12 first team pick.
Texas Tech had six played named to the All-Big 12 Baseball first and second team on Tuesday. Junior first baseman Eric Gutierrez (Mission, Texas) was a unanimous first-team selection and senior pitchers Cameron Smith (Seabrook, Texas) and Corey Taylor (Kennedale, Texas) were also named to the first team, the league announced.
It marks the second straight season Texas Tech has had six All-Big 12 selections, a first for the program since the first two years of the Big 12 Conference (1997-98). It is the first time since 2001-02 that the Red Raiders have had three first-team selections in back-to-back years.full article
Taylor was a three-year varsity baseball letterman at Kennedale High School for head coach Jet Teague … as a senior Taylor played on the 3A 2011 state champion team… posted a 1.32 ERA in 60 innings and
tallied a .405 batting average… earned first team all-state, 3A Player of the
Year and was named the district most valuable player… earned first team
all-district as a junior in 2010… lettered three years in basketball and
two years in football… received second team all-district in basketball as a
senior and named honorable mention all-district as a sophomore in 2009…
collected all-district honors in back-to-back football seasons earning first
team as a senior (2010) and second team as a junior (2009)… received
first team all-area in football in 2010.
