Combined with Allie Turner?s 17 strikeouts, Kennedale?s 7 run second inning sank the hopes of the Fort Stockton Prowlers with the LadyKats winning 10-2 in the first game of a best of three region semifinal series being played at San Angelo State. {{more}}
The Kennedale LadyKats (21-2) with a one game advantage face the Prowlers (26-5) in Game 2 at 1 pm today at San Angelo State University. Game 3, if needed, will be played following the end of game 2.
Turner pitched seven innings throwing 116 times with 78 strikes. For the game she had 17 strike outs with no walks, 2 hit batters, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. She started the game fanning 6 straight Prowlers.Alexa Neifert had 3 RBIs with a triple and a single for the game. Jazlyn Crowder also had a triple. Getting doubles in the game were Elizabeth Schiele and Mary Grace Howard.
Kennedale led off the game with a run in the first when Niefert who had reached on an error, stole home after a Howard double had moved her to 3rd.
In the second inning, the bats really came alive for the LadyKats with Schiele starting out the inning with a line drive single to right field. Rebekah Abair singled to center field and Schiele scored from 2nd. With 2 outs, Kennedale loaded the bases after Jamie Franks was hit by pitch and Turner walked.at Game Changer
The real kick-starter for the inning came with a three run error starting with Neifert reaching on an error and Abair, Franks and Turner scoring. The hits then piled up with a Mary Grace Howard single that scored Neifert, a Crowder tripled scoring Howard followed by a Schiele double that scored Crowder. Seven LadyKats crossed home plate in the inning.
There was no scoring until the 5th, when Turner who had reached on an error scored after an Abair single. After 5 innings of play, the score was Kennedale 9-0.
Fort Stockton finally got on the scoreboard with 2 in the 6th off of a single and a triple.
In the seventh, Kennedale scored one more run off some heads up base running by Crowder who had reached on a walk. She then quickly stole her way home. The game ended with three straight outs with a strikeout, a fly out and a ground out for the Prowlers.
