It was a good week for Texas Tech Red Raider Baseball and also for local KHS standout, Corey Taylor.
Tech Texas had 6 Raiders drafted in the first two days of the MLB draft, the most in school history and one of the top in the nation’s colleges. {{more}}Among the draftees was Corey Talyor who was selected in the 7th round with the 209th overall pick by the New York Mets.The Kennedale, Texas native who transferred to Texas Tech in 2013 from Cisco Junior College became the fifth Red Raider selected by the Mets in franchise history.The following day Taylor was named a third team All-American by the National CollegiateBaseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
This is the second postseason honor already for Taylor, who
was named to the All-Big 12 first team following the regular season. He was
previously a nominee for both National Pitcher of the Year and Stopper of the
Year awards as well.
Taylor snapped the Texas Tech and Big 12 Conference records
with his 0.31 ERA as he allowed just two earned runs over 57.1 innings. He
finished a perfect 4-0 in 19 appearances where he allowed just 36 hits en route
to holding opponents to an impressive .186 batting average.
Taylor went 11-8 overall through his final seasons at Tech, compiling an 3.30 ERA in 158.1 innings, with 16 earned runs through 40 appearances.
