The Dunbar Wildcats are coming off a hard fought 20-14 overtime loss to Fort Worth O.D. Wyatt last Saturday. But, in the first game of the season, Dunbar bounced Dallas Lincoln 46-22. Dunbar is establishing that this team has some athletic players who are capable of making big plays at any point in the game.

Kennedale is on a roll. Kennedale has not lost a regular season game since September 27, 2013 when the Cats lost to Texas High (Texarkana). The streak is now at 17 games (excluding playoffs). The Cats have moved up in the current AP 4A poll to #7 this week.

Two big play Dunbar players are QB Nakia Cox (Sr) and De?vonta Kinney. Cox (5-10, 175) last year had 866 yards rushing, 1,104 yards passing and 24 touchdowns. So far this year in two games, he has 218 yards rushing, 259 passing and 3 touchdowns. Kinney plays both sides of the ball, as a receiver last year had 488 yards and 6 touchdowns. This year he has 56 yards rushing, 159 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Another player who is becoming one to watch is Bryan Wilson who has rushed for 96 yards in just 7 carries for an average of 13.71 yards per carry.

Kennedale…

Kennedale is racking up the numbers early in the season after outscoring their first two opponents 111 to 32. Kennedale has passed only one time for 6 yards but has rushed for 996 yards at 10.1 yards per rush and added another 172 yards in returns. The Cats’ defense has 172 tackles, caused three fumbles, recovered 4 fumbles, recorded 6 sacks for 44 yards and blocked a punt.

Going unchallenged early in the season may not be good preparation for the post season but it looks and feels good to the Cats now.
