Local State Parks Offer Activities this Weekend

Some outdoor happenings this weekend at area state parks that may be of interest to individuals and families with children include a lunar eclipse party, wilderness survival for kids and a volunteer work day. {{more}}
 
National Public Lands Day – Trail Work (9 a.m.-noon, Sept. 26, Cleburne State Park): A day to help clean up the trails in the park. Gloves and lopping shears will be provided but it is recommended to bring your own. Please bring water and wear long sleeves, pants and closed toe shoes. Call 817-645-4215 for information.
 
Kids? Wilderness Survival (8:30-11:30 a.m., Sept. 26, Mineral Wells State Park): A 2 1/2 -hour course that teaches kids what to do if lost. It includes games, demonstrations and a hike on the nature trail. Parent or guardian required. The event is free with a paid admission ($5 per person, children 12 and under are free) to the park. Reservations are required. Call 940-328-1171×222 to make a reservation.
 
Lunar Eclipse Watching Party (8:30-11:30 p.m., Sept. 27, Lake Mineral Wells State Park): Meet at the Lone Star Amphitheater to watch the blood moon eclipse. A chair and blanket are recommended. A Ranger will set up telescopes and tell more about the moon and the Texas night sky. Call 940-328-1171×227 for more information.
