KHS Cheer Team earns 4th in state championships

The Kennedale High School cheer leaders participated in the first Texas UIL Cheer Championship this past week held at UTA. Kennedale with a score of 93.6, finished in 4th place, just .8 off the score earned by the state champion team from Jasper High School at 94.4. {{more}}
 
The KHS Cheer Team competed in three events – Crowd Leading, Fight Songdance and Band Dance – coming in 2nd in the dance routine and 4th overall. The KHS Band accompanied the team to the competition on Thursday to play the school fight song and a number for the dance competition.

After the preliminaries performed during the day on Thursday, the Wildcats made the cut for the finals at #17 out of 20 announced before finishing at #4.

Coach Barbara Johnson said, “Of course, we would have loved first place, but forth place out of the entire State of Texas great accomplishment!
 
Johnson added, “We feel so blessed to have the talent of the KHS Band on our side. The quality and the sound from our band is superior. They also provided us with a piece of music for the Band Dance section that wasn’t played by any other school and the judges appreciated the originality.”
 
The top ten in Class 4A were #1 Jasper (94.4), #2 Texarkana Pleasant Grove (94.35), #3 Orange Little Cypress-Mauriceville (93.8), #4 Kennedale (93.6), #5 Huffman Hargrave (93.15), #6 Andrews (91.9), #7 Liberty Hill (91.5), #8 Argyle (91.35), #9 Northwest Eaton (91.25) and #10 Lampasas (90.85).

The team is coached by Barbara Johnson, CTE teacher for Education

Preparation at Kennedale High School.

 
Kennedale will compete this week in the National Cheerleading Association’s Nationals which will be held in Dallas.
