There is no real pattern for vehicle break-ins. They are recorded all over town in neighborhoods, apartments, parking lots and businesses. It can happen overnight or during the day.
Sometimes it involves someone just walking along checking for unlocked doors. According to statistics up to 80% of car break-ins occur with automobiles that are not unlock. It is a lot easier than to ?smash and grab.? But, those happen also.

What can you do? Two things would prevent almost all thefts: first do not leave valuables in plain sight, second, always lock your car even if it is in your driveway or you are just ?popping? into a store.
Last week Kennedale Police Chief {{t2:Tommy Williams: }} in a report to the Kennedale City Council put it this way. ?Most of the preventable crimes involved citizens leaving valuables in unlocked vehicles overnight while parked outside of a residential garage. Several of the vehicles were locked but the property was left in plain view so that the thief knew that breaking the window would result in easily obtainable property.easily cut our thefts in half …
?We could easily cut our theft numbers in half if residents would simply not leave property in unsecured vehicles and locations.? Williams said.
Kennedale does participate in a the Tri-County Auto Burglary & Theft Prevention Task Force long with Mansfield, Burleson, Tarrant County Constable Precinct 7 and the Johnson County sheriff?s office to raise awareness and investigate the crimes.
80% happen with unlocked cars
Jessica Graves, public awareness coordinator for the task force, recently told Nicholas Sakelaris of the Mansfield News-Mirror, that they have five full-time investigators.
