This month we would like to introduce you to Fred Moore.
Tell us about yourself.
I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, and earned my Bachelor’s degree from East Texas State, now known as A&M Commerce. My wife and I have been happily married for 43 years, and we have three sons. Though my business keeps me busy, when I get free time I like to spend it hunting or playing golf.
Tell us about your business.
FWT (Fort Worth Tower) is a specialized manufacturer, primarily building transmission poles. My parents started FWT in 1959 by designing and building the first structures that could carry cable television lines. As technology evolved, so did we, later producing fiberglass for satellite dishes, poles and towers for long distance telephone lines and fiber optic cables, and most recently, transmission poles for utilities and cell phones. Our key to staying in business and staying at the top of our game was to continuously grow and evolve as the technology and world did. We like to be the guys building things that no one else does; our structures aren’t just functional, they’re amazing works that go high in the air, making more advanced technology possible and bringing the world a little closer together.
Currently, we have 450 employees in the Kennedale area, making us the city’s largest single employer, and another 150 in our plant in Ohio. Last February, our company was acquired by Sabre Industries, so the company now includes about 2000 employees and has an even more expanded reach of services and products.
What do you enjoy most about your line of work?
I love this company, my parents put their heart and soul into it and I’m so proud to be a part of continuing that legacy, growing it bigger and stronger than they ever imagined. I think I get the most joy out of the people I work with. I’ve seen so many people’s lives changed because of their job here.. from all levels of the company, you see what a difference having a solid job that they love can make in a person’s life. The right job is all anyone needs to get that foundation, to be able to build a life. I’ve seen so many employees start here so young, and watched them work up through the ranks, get married, raise kids, and be able to provide for their family while a part of something they believe in as much as me. It’s such an honor to be able to facilitate that for them, open those doors and watch them take off.
Why do you like doing business in Kennedale?
We work with a lot of cities, but by far Kennedale?s city staff has been the most accommodating we?ve ever worked with. For being such a small town, they are incredibly forward thinking, andwe really always get the impression they?re here to serve the people; businesses and residents alike. Too many municipalities try to get things done by intimidation and threats, but we?ve been incredibly lucky here in Kennedale. It?s why we?ve stayed, and why we?ve stayed active in the community with sponsoring events and participating in the chamber. We are happy here, and so we?re happy to give back.
What are your goals for the future?
Our goals for the future are the same as they?ve always been. We want to do a good job, create a quality product, and be a company that everyone wants to do business with, an employer everyone wants to work for. Customer service is always our first priority, and for us that means not just friendly, prompt and professional assistance, but also to continue innovating and advancing ourselves, so we?re always becoming a better version of ourselves. Things have changed for us over the last year, becoming a part of Sabre, but that?s a great thing. Change is a great thing. It keeps you moving forward, keeps you on your toes. That?s where I like to be.
Fred Moore is Chairman of Utility Division Sabre-FWT, Inc located at 5750 Interstate 20 Service Rd Fort Worth, TX 76119.
