Wildcats sweat out 2-1 win over Alvarado

Bryce Hackett (So) pitched seven strong innings to carry the Kennedale Wildcats to a 2-1 win over Alvarado in seven innings on Tuesday. Alvarado did not score a run until the top of the 7th. {{more:[read more]}}
 
Hackett finished the game pitching 76 strikes in 103 throws for 74%. He faced 31 batters, throwing 17 first strike pitches, getting 9 groundouts and 7 flyouts and striking out 5.
 
The Cats needed the win to stay in contention after dropping two straight district games, losing to Godley 11-3 and Venus 9-0 last week. Kennedale is now 2-2 in district play with Midlothian left to play in first round action this Friday night at 7:30 p.m in Kennedale.

  • 1st Godley at 13-2, 4-0.
  • 2nd Venus at 9-4, 3-1 with a loss to Alvarado.
  • 3rd (T) Kennedale 7-11, 2-2 with losses to Godley and Venus

  • 5th Alvarado at 10-8, 1-3 with losses to Godley, Midlothian and Kennedale.

1st inning ? Despite a double line drive hit to right field, Alvarado was unable to capitalized and left one on with a groundout and two flyouts. Kennedale managed one run when Cole Curruthers (Jr) scored off of a Cody Bossaller (Sr) single to right field with 2 outs. Ethan Wood (So) followed with a single to centerfield but Cats left two on with ground out to second.
 
2nd inning ? Alvarado went 3 and out on two ground outs and a pop-up to right field. Kennedale went four and out, leaving Darren Hull (Jr) stranded. Hull had been hit by a pitch.
 
3rd inning ? Alvarado recorded two hit singles between a strikeout, a sacrifice and a flyout, leaving both runners on base. For Kennedale, hits by Hackett (single) and Wood (double) went unrewarded when the Cats grounded out, struck out and flied out.
 
4th inning ? The first two batters reached for Alvarado on a hit batter and a single, giving the Indians a promising start but that was followed by a flyout, a strikeout and groundout in just five pitches by Hackett. Kennedale put two on quickly after a groundout when Hull got hit once again by the pitcher and Aaron Herrera (So) walked. But, Alvarado?s Kirkland got consecutive strikeouts again stranding two.
 
5th inning ? Facing 4 batters, Hackett allowed a single sandwiched around a strike out and two ground outs to end any Alvarado threat. Kennedale did get a two singles (Bossaller and Luke Michener) and a hit batter (Wood) but could not put across a run.
 
6th inning ? Again facing just 4 batters, Hackett had one runner reach on error but struck out one and got a flyout and a groundout to leave one on. Kennedale managed the winning run in the bottom on the inning when Herrera reached on a hit by a pitch was knocked home by single by Braydon Sewell (Jr). Sewell was left stranded.
 
7th inning ? Alvarado mounted a comeback when they scored their first run of the game after their first batter reached on a single and then was able to cross the plate on another single by the Indians. Hackett walked another to have two runners on with one out. On a 0-2 count, Hackett got a flyball out to 3rd baseman Austin Crabtree (So) for the second out. The final out came one batter later on a 0-1 count when Hackett got a ground out to 3rd base (Crabtree).
