Stephen Clemmons, who grew up in Waxahachie but now lives in Kennedale, was deployed three times to Iraq and once to Kuwait. The accident happened December 6, 2015 and since he has been in physical therapy to regain his mobility.

As he told Branca he was in a rough period because he was ?in kind of a leeway with benefits?? and waiting on paperwork to finalize. ?It has been kind of rough.?

This is where the Waxahachie Firefighters Association stepped-up and through funds raised early were able to present he and his family with a $2,000 check last week.

In the hit and run accident, Clemmons sustained multiple fractures to his legs, hip and vertebrae and nerve damage to his right leg, he said. Clemmons also sustained an avulsion to his right leg where the license plate from the vehicle had sunk into it. This was also how police were able to identify the vehicle, which they pulled over later that night.

Since the accident, Clemmons? rehabilitation has been a slow, but steady. He has been taking part in physical therapy on and off for the past year and half.

?The final expectations from the doctors say that it is going to be a long-term process. I probably got a couple of years to go before my body fully heals from the accident.?

Clemmons has three young daughters.
