Being good at anything takes ability and talent, but any teacher/coach will tell you it takes skill too. And, skill comes with practice and more practice. To wear the green of a Kennedale Wildcat means that there is a lot of hard work and practice going on year around. {{more: read more …}}
Today, well over a hundred members of the Kennedale Wildcat Marching Band took to the pavement to begin their work for another march on state. But, actually it started earlier in the summer with special workshops for drumline, color guard, drum majors & squad leaders and earlier this week freshman/rookies. The full band will practice for the next three weeks up to 6 hours a day. (This does includes some sit down indoor rehearsals). The Kennedale Band is one of the best in Texas in Class 4A and it comes with a lot of hard work by the band members and their directors using their talents and honing their skills.
But they are not alone …
Monday is the first day of practice for football and volleyball. Coach Richard Barrett will hold his annual Midnight Madness practice (actually 12:15 a.m.) at Wildcat stadium and Coach Jennifer Patterson will conduct volleyball tryouts beginning at 7a.m. And for the rest, when school starts, there will be off-season programs for basketball, soccer, softball, baseball and track. And then there is cross country, powerlifting, golf and tennis.
Sports has become year-around. Athletes from all sports are encouraged to stay in shape and sharpen their skills with summer, spring or fall league programs and specialty camps. Kennedale runs a strength and conditioning camp during the summer for athletes of any sport. The field house is open all summer and after school for students to train on their own.
Kennedale is big enough that there are plenty of quality athletes to go around with some sharing. Many will settle on two sports, which still gives them some breaks in their schedule to have life inside and outside of school. But, Kennedale is small enough that many will be any other activities such as band, choir and drama or become active in student leadership and club activities.
The school year officially starts on the calendar August 22 but for many it really has already started.
