Kennedale has a very solid pre-district schedule this year that will definitely challenge the Wildcats, starting next week with state ranked Terrell and finishing four games later with last year?s state 4A DII champions. {{more: Read more …}}
Here is a look ahead at the first half this year schedule.
9/2 .. Terrell (home) 7:30 p.m. Terrell has dropped back from Class 5A this year but has a strong solid football program. The Tigers went 11-2 last year winning District 12-5A. Terrell is everyone?s top 15 and several polls have them listed in the top 10. They were to open their season against Paris Friday but it was postponed because of weather.
9/9 .. Alvarado (away) Kennedale will travel to 4A Alvarado for its second game of the season playing against a traditional rival and another strong football program. Alvarado is a top 20 team and would love to avenge the 56-21 loss suffered at the hands of Kennedale last year. The Indians went 9-2 last year and 4-1 in district play, losing only to the Wildcats. They dropped their season opener Friday against 5A Northwest 27-21.
9/16 .. Wichita Falls Rider (home) Kennedale will host the 5A Wichita Falls Rider, another solid football program that is predicted to finish third behind AP #3 Denton Ryan and Denton this year in the 7 team District 5-5A. The Raiders finished with a 7-5 record in 2015 with a 5-2 district record. Rider lost to Mansfield Legacy Friday 50-19.
9/23 .. Whitehouse (away) The Wildcats from 5A Whitehouse will host the Kennedale Wildcats as a definite underdog at this point. However Whitehouse did win their opener against Hallsville Friday night 28-15. Whitehouse was 2-8 last year but would love to be overlooked by the Cats and with the home field advantage pull the season upset win.
9/30 .. West Orange Stark (away) The last game of the pre-district schedule and at this point the biggest. It will garner a lot of media attention if both teams are still rolling as it will pit a strong 4A division I team, Kennedale, against the 4A Division II state champions, West Orange-Stark. The Mustangs went 15-1 last year, defeating undefeated Celina in the championship game 22-3. Kennedale will be on the road for this one, one of the longest that they have ever had to take. West Orange-Stark is east of Beaumont and over five hours from Kennedale. The Mustangs won their season opener 42-0 over 5A Nederland.
