Kats jump from #19 to #4 in state

 
The Kennedale Lady Kats have now gone nine games without a loss in their best start in almost a decade. This team has bested the 2010-11 team record when the Kats went 7-0 {{more:Read more …}}under Vance Hughes going 26-8 and losing out to eventual state champions Abilene Wylie in a regional final game.
 
The 2016-17 team may challenge the 2007-08 Lady Kats, another Hughes team, who went undefeated in their first eleven and ended up playing in the state finals before losing out to Canyon.
 
Unranked before the season …
 
Kennedale who was unranked coming into the season has now sent out their notice to the rest of 4A. As a result of the march through the Brock Varsity Showcase Tournament last week, the Kats were recognized with a jump from #19 last week to #4 this week in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
 
After defeating three 5A opponents (Ennis, Burleson Centennial, Mansfield Legacy) to the start the season, the Lady Kats rolled through the Brock tournament this past weekend capturing the championship title with their hardest conquest yet, defeating #5 Godley 55-52.

The Lady Kats started the Brock tournament by defeating #7 Trinity Valley (TAPPS 6A) 78-32. Kennedale then downed their fourth 5A team this season by beating #4 Aledo 53-28. Next up for the Kats was #5 Argyle Liberty Christian (TAPPS 6A), winning 66-49. Before the championship game, Kennedale took a win over #5 Lubbock Liberty Christian (TAPPS 4A).
 

Monday afternoon, the Kats defeated 4A China Springs jumping out to a 39-25 by halftime and stretched it out to a 23 point lead at 55-32 in the 3rd quarter before winning 61-47. Today they will be playing 6A Martin High School at 2:30 p.m. at Kennedale High School.
