The MaxPreps Medium Schools All-American football team has been announced and it includes senior Baron Browning from Kennedale. Browning is a Ohio State commit. {{more:Read more …}}
The Medium Schools All-American team consists of 60 players from schools across the nation that play in state enrollment divisions that generally have between 1,000 and 2,000 students.
Chosen for the first team defense was Kennedale linebacker Baron Browning (6-4, 230). Headed to Ohio State, Browning earned Associated Press Class 4A state defensive Player of the Year honors and is a two time AP All-State player. He had 75 tackles on the season with 10 tackles for loss and three sacks. Browning was named to the Fort Worth Star Telegram Super Team and was an US Army High School All-American. Browning was also named the District 5-4A MVP this year.
He joined two other Texans who made the team. Quarterback Nick Gerber, Levelland TX, (6-2, 180) Sr was the Associated Press Class 4A state Player of the Year, Gerber set single-season state records for yardage (5,617 yards) and touchdowns (77). He led the nation in touchdown passes and completed 337-of-522 passes and threw eight interceptions. He threw for over 500 yards three times, including a high of 563 in a 77-76 loss to Andrews. Wide receiver Braxton Ashcraft, Robinson TX (6-5, 190) Jr earned Class 4A All-State honors from the Associated Press after finishing with 104 catches for 2,090 yards and 37 touchdowns. His single season yardage total ranks fourth in state history while his touchdown total ranks second all-time nationally and in state history.
