Last night, going in the bottom of the 7th inning, Kennedale was down 10-9 in the first game of a best of 3 series in a bi-district match-up with Alvarado. {{more: READ MORE …}}To take a first game loss at home in the series would be a setback for the high flying Lady Kats, winners of their last 9 games.
But, this was Kennedale?s field and Kennedale?s game, they won on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th with only one out.crack of the bat heard all night …
If you like action this was the game to watch. The crack of the bat was heard all night long as the two teams combined for a total of 29 hits. Alvarado (3rd seed District 8-4A) ended the game with 10 runs on 16 hits with 3 errors while leaving 6 on base. Kennedale (1st seed District 7-4A) had 11 runs on 13 hits with no errors, leaving 3 on base.Ten of Kennedale?s 13 hits for the game came off multiplebase hits. Kennedale had 7 doubles, two
triples and one homerun. All nine players
had hits while only two strike outs were recorded on the Kats.
2nd game tonight Alvarado …The second game of this series goes to Alvarado tonight with a 6:30 p.m. start. If needed, a 3rd game will be scheduled for Saturday.
Game story ?
1st Inning – Alvarado took an early lead with one run in the top of the first when the first batter Faith Waugh singled on a 3-2 count, a sacrifice bunt moved the runner into scoring position and scored on a Kaitlynn Woodlee single. Two flyouts ended the scoring threat with one on base. Kennedale went 3-0. SCORE 1-0 Alvarado
Inning 2 – Alvarado did get two singles in the 2nd but with a popout and 2 strikeouts (P: Jamie Franks) both runners were left stranded. Kennedale took the lead in bottom of the inning when Mary Grace Howard reached on an error (line drive single) and then scored on a first swing double by Megan Calhoun. After a fly out by Ashley McElvany, Alyssa Bradberry singled to move Calhoun to third. Then with a second error by Alvarado on a hard ground ball by Josie Mensing, Calhoun scored. The inning ended on a double play by Alvarado off a Gabryelle Slider ground ball. SCORE 2-1 Kennedale
Inning 3 – Alvarado took the lead back after getting their first two batters on with back to back singles. Following a pop out, L Cole for the Lady Indians hit a 2 run homer over the center field fence. Cole scored on a triple by Alvarado?s C Harroff. The Kats’ Franks then stopped the Indians with a strike out, leaving one on base. Kennedale went 3-0. SCORE 4-2 Alvarado
Inning 4 – Alvarado goes 1,2,3 when Franks got a strikeout along with two ground outs. The Lady Kats came back with a 3 run inning after a first batter out (Calhoun grounder) and Alvarado walked the next two batters (McElvany, Bradberry). Kennedale then hit back to back doubles. First, a Mensing double helped get two across the plate and then a Slider double scored Mensing. The scoring ended with double play by the Lady Indians off a Franks fly out. None left on base. SCORE 5-4 Kennedale
From this point on the Lady Indians and the Lady Cats swapped 2 run innings and the lead the rest of the way.
5th Inning ? Alvarado took the lead again with 2 runs off of a single and a double, leaving none. Kennedale followed with 2 runs from a first batter double (Alexa Neifert), a walk (Howard), a double (Calhoun) and another double (Bradberry). One left on base. SCORE 7-6 Kennedale
6th Inning ? Alvarado scores 2 with a single, a double and a steal of home with none left on base. Kennedale responds with 2 runs off a triple (Jenna Webb) followed by a homer ( Franks). A triple (Howard) goes for naught as the inning ends. One left. SCORE 9-8 Kennedale
7th Inning ? Alvarado rallied again to take a 1 point lead with a one out double followed by a single that put two on base. After a second out, Alvarado scored both runners with back to back singles. A fly out ended the inning with 2 stranded.
Rally time – Down by one, Kennedale needed two. Responding to the pressure, the Kats got hits from their first two batters, a single (McElvany) and a double (Bradberry). On the next bat, Mensing grounded out but no worry. Kennedale tied the game when McElvany scored from third on an error by the Alvarado pitcher.
