There will a big change on the Kennedale City Council. Three candidates that ran on the same platform and supposedly will vote as one now have the controlling majority on the five member council. {{more: READ MORE …}} The mayor votes only in case of a tie.

- Place 1, Rockie Gilley won by 62% of the vote 739 to 452 for Charles Overstreet at 37.9%
- Place 3, Sandra Lee won with 56% of the vote 672 to 526 for Mike Walker at 43.9%
- Place 5, Jan Joplin won with 62% of the vote with 746 votes while Frank Fernandez who had resigned last week got 380 votes or 31.6%. Perry Clementi, who ran a low key campaign received 75 votes (6.2%).
big turnout for local election ?
It was a large turnout, maybe even, a record for a Kennedale local race in a non-primary election year.
Kennedale has 4,771 registered voters. Of that number, 847 voted early or approximately 17.8%. Another 369 voting on Saturday, bringing the total up to 1216 or one in 4 eligible voters voted (25.49%). Only four other precincts out of 184 in Tarrant County had a higher turnout.

On Monday, May 15, the City Council will hold a special meeting to canvass election and the swearing in of winning candidates.
