For the sixth time in as many years, a Stephen F. Austin men?s basketball player was listed among the 10 student-athletes who made up the National Association of Basketball Coaches? (NABC) Division I All-District 23 Teams. {{more: READ MORE … }}Average 9.3 points and 5 rebounds this year …This time, junior Ty Charles made the cut for the NABC?s All-District 23 Second Team when the association unveiled its annual list on March 22.
Through his third season in Lumberjack colors, the guard out of Kennedale, Texas, took part in 23 of SFA?s 33 games and finished fourth on the team in scoring at 9.3 points per game and third among the ?Jacks? ranks in rebounding by pulling down five per outing.
Sat out 10 games with fracture …
In SFA?s 2016-17 season opener at then-second-ranked Kentucky, Charles got the start and logged 26 minutes of action before suffering a fracture in his right hand. That injury kept the Kennedale, Texas, product on the ?Jacks? bench for the next 10 games before he returned to the fray on Christmas Day in Hawaii for SFA?s matchup with Utah in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic fifth-place game.
Once back in SFA?s lineup, Charles turned into one of the ?Jacks? most consistent performers, amassing nine double-digit scoring performances, three outings of 10 or more rebounds and a pair of double-doubles. In all, Charles led SFA in scoring twice and in rebounding on eight occasions through his inaugural season in the ranks of the upperclassmen.Needs 183 point in senior season for 1000 club …
As he enters in final season in an SFA uniform in 2017-18, Charles is poised to become the latest entrant in the ?Jacks? 1,000-point club. He needs 183 more points to reach 1,000 for his career and with 13 more steals he will break into the list of top-ten steals leaders in SFA?s NCAA Division I history.
The ?Jacks went 18-13 through their 2016-17 campaign and posted a second-place finish in Southland Conference play with a 12-6 mark. SFA advanced to the semifinal round of the Southland Conference Tournament before making the cut for the postseason for the fifth-straight season. The ?Jacks? final game of the season took place in Moscow, Idaho, where SFA fell to Idaho in the opening round of the CIT.At Kennedale …A three-star
