Delaney Elementary 4th graders participated in the Future City Jr. Competition of North Texas on Saturday, January 27th. Delaney was represented by two teams, DragonStar and Platinum Peak. Both teams returned with earned awards. {{more: continue …}}?Project theme: Age friendly city …?An age friendly city should provide solutions to help the aging population stay active and independent. These students began researching city planning and engineering back in October.?Each team, consisting of 8 members, worked together to create a city name, a solution to the problem, and build a scale model.? At the competition, three team members and one alternate, presented their ideas to the judges who graded them based on their level of teamwork and quality of workmanship.?Dragonstar …??Dragonstar won a special award for having the best green design, meaning their ideas were environmentally friendly and sustainable. They included rain barrels and wind turbines to create clean forms of energy. The student engineers of Dragonstar invented Uberchairs, which provide an easy and convenient method of transportation to its citizens.?Platinum Peak …?
?Platinum Peak won the award for best model. These students worked very hard to create a scale model which demonstrated all of their ideas and the solutions to their problem. Platinum Peak uses drones and medical robots to ensure that its citizens stay safe as they make their way around the city.?It?s amazing to think about the level of details that these fourth graders put into their ideas and models.
