Wildcats shutout Springtown setting up showdown with Benbrook

Last Thursday, KHS senior Bryce Hackett threw a one-hit shutout of the host Springtown Pojos, 10-0. The win was the 5th straight district win for the Wildcats, setting up a first round showdown with second place Benbrook today (Tuesday, March 3). {{more: continue …}}

Springtown game highlights …?
  • Kennedale scored 10 runs on 10 hits and was able to end the game in the 5th inning with the 10 run rule after Springtown went 3 and out in the bottom of the inning.?
  • Hackett earned the win for the Wildcats. He surrendered zero runs on one hit over five innings, striking out 13 and walking one. Hackett faced 18 batters throwing 80 with 52 strikes (.650). He also went 1/2 at the plate with a triple and scored 2 runs.?
  • Kennedale totaled ten hits in the game. Cade Thompson was 2/2 at the plate, getting 2 RBIs, a double, walking once and making 3 runs. Ethan Wood was 2/3 w 1 RBI, a double and 2 runs. Brandon Jones was 2/3 with a double and 1 run scored. Also with a multiple hit game was J.D. Padgett who was 2/4 and getting 2 RBIs. Austin Crabtree was 1/3 with 1 RBI, 1 walk and 1 run scored. Reed Saenz got on base with a walk and earned a RBI.?
  • The Cats were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Luke Michener had the most chances in the field with 12. Kennedale tore up the base paths, as four players stole bases including JD Padgett, Spencer Roof with one apiece while Austin Crabtree had three and Cade Thompson led the way with four.

Benbrook is 11-9 overall and 4-1 in district play with wins over Diamond Hill, Castleberry, Springtown and Lake Worth. There sole loss in district was against Mineral Wells 8-2 two weeks ago.

The game tonight against Benbrook will start at 7:30 p.m. at Jet Teague Ballpark on the campus of Kennedale High School.?
