Kennedale High School head basketball coach, Doug Watson resigned earlier this spring to accept a job with 6A Brazoswood in the Brazosport ISD. {{more: continue …}}

Watson leaves behind a successful program at KHS. In four short years as head coach, he won 104 games losing 43 for a 70.7% winning percentage. He had 2 undefeated district season and lost only 2 district games during his 4 years. He was honored as District Coach of the Year three of the four years he was head coach.

His most successful season was in 2016-17 when the Lady Kats finished 33-4. That year, the Lady Kats were ranked #2 in the state in the final 4A poll of the regular season. He taught economics at the high school.

Brazosport ISD is located on the gulf and has an enrollment of over 12,000 students with two main high schools. Brazoswood HS is a 6A program in Region III and plays in District 23.

Watson will have the challenge of establishing a winning program at the high school. The girls? basketball program was 5-23 overall and was 0-11 in district play last year and has not been a consistent winner in past years.

He was excited about moving, saying that there was family in the area and that he would be working with former KHS Principal Rita Pintavalle, who now serves as principal at Brazoswood.

Hilton replacing Watson …?

Replacing Watson will be Garrett Hilton from Clear Brook High School. Clear Brook High School is part of the Clear Creek Independent School District located south of Houston and adjacent to Galveston Gulf. Clear Creek ISD has over 40,000 students with 7 high schools.

Clear Brook, located in the City of Friendswood, is 6A program in Region III playing in District 24. Hilton has served the past five years as Clear Brook?s head girls? basketball coach.

Hilton told Houston Chronicle?s reporter Ted Dunham, ?All of my family and my wife?s family live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and our parents are getting older, and we just wanted to be closer to family to be able to help with whatever is needed.??

?Kennedale is a great school with great tradition. They reached the third round of the playoffs this year. I think they went 23-17, and the players said that this was a ?down? year for them,? Hilton said.
