Kennedale Soccer in the playoffs with double header vs Decatur this Friday

Both Kennedale soccer teams are playoff bound this coming week. Neither team played Friday night in the final day of District 8-4A play because the teams had a bye, but it didn?t matter since both had already clinched a berth in the state UIL championship tournament, regardless of the evening results. {{more: continue …}}

?LadyKats 7th district title ??

The LadyKats (13-8-1, 9-2-0) did learn from Friday night action that they shared a district championship with Castleberry (18-3-0, 11-1). Under the point system used by district coaches to calculate standings, both the Kats and the Lions finished the season with 50 points. Points are a combination points that include wins, ties, and penalty kicks.

For the LadyKats, this is their 7th straight district title and their 8th straight playoff appearance. A check of the record books show that the Kats finished second in 2011-12 and won their first bi-district title before bowing out in the area round to Arlington Heights High School 1-0.

Although the LadyKat are co-district champs, Castleberry, the Lions will go into the playoffs as the #1 seed from District 8-4A with the better overall record.

Wildcats 5th playoff & first top 2 district finish ?

The Wildcats, who finished the regular season 16-11-1 and 9-3, earned the number two spot in the district just behind Castleberry (13-8-1, 9-2). For the Wildcats, this will be their 5th straight UIL playoffs and the first time ever finishing as one of the top two teams in district play in the programs 19 year history. (Note: It wasn?t until 2015, that Kennedale competed only with teams in their own classification in district play and for the playoffs).

While Kennedale Soccer plays the same district opponents that Wildcat football, volleyball and basketball played, the new UIL alignment that went into place this year put the soccer program in 4A Region I (West Texas) while Kennedale?s other sport programs were placed in Region II (East Texas). The first round bi-district playoff game matches District 8/4A #2 seed teams in both the boys? and girls? program against the #3 seed teams for District 7-4A. Which in this case happens to be the Decatur Eagles for both. This has happened before when in (2017) both Kennedale teams open the playoffs playing the same team, Life Oak Cliff.? ?That year the 4th seed Wildcats played the #1 seed Life Oak Cliff while on the women?s side, the LadyKats coming in as the #1 seed matched up with the 4th seed Life Oak Cliff.? The Lady Kat won while the Wildcats lost.

Decatur, playing in District 7-4A, finished 3rd in the four team district in both the girls and boys soccer program. The district includes Argyle, Bridgeport, Decatur and Springtown,

The Decatur boys record for the year is 6-9-1, 4-5 going into the playoffs. Finishing in first place in the district was Bridgeport at 14-5-2, 8-1 followed by Argyle at 14-5-2, 6-3). Springtown brought up the rear with a? 1-17-0, 0-9 record.

The Decatur Lady Eagles finished the regular season year at 6-10-0, 4-5 behind 1st place Argyle at 14-5-2, 9-0 and 2nd place Bridgeport 11-11-2, 5-4 in district play while Springtown struggled to a 0-20-0, 0-9 record.

The bi-district game with Decatur is set for Friday, March 29, 2019 at Weatherford High School. The LadyKats will play at 6 p.m. followed by the Wildcats at 8:00 p.m. Kennedale will be the favorite in both games. Last year both teams won their first round games.? In fact the LadyKats have never lost a bi-district title.
