JD Coffey (6?0, 180) started getting attention as a freshman when he earned all-state honors for the Wildcats, the same year the Cats played in their first and only state championship game. It may have the Longhorns first offer for 2021, but they were not the first to beat path to Coffey?s mailbox. Last month, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame put in their bid, hoping to get a visit from the 4-star prospect. This is only two of 14 schools who have lined up with offers including DI schools Florida Gators, Arkansas Razorbacks, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Mizzou Tigers, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Utah Utes, as well as, the Longhorns and the Irish.?Not the first to feel the pressure …?
This is not the first time for a Wildcat to garner this type of attention in recent years. A year before Coffey earned his rookie all-state honor, KHS senior linebacker Baron Browning finished his high school career as a 4-year all-state player. He had also earned attention beginning his freshman year and like Coffey the interest only grew.Browning, who was listed as a five-star recruit via 247Sports, had 40 offers by his senior year. Browning finally settled on Ohio State where he promptly made his way to the varsity and began playing his freshman year. Entering his junior year, Browning (6?3, 248), is now a two-year letterman and in the mixed for a starting position once again.
