For Decatur, this game was building on the success that the team had late last season. That season the Eagles became one of the few programs to enter the playoffs with a losing record and then went on to come within one game of the state finals.

For Kennedale this was a building game. For the coaching staff, including Head Coach Richard Barrett, who all believe in the potential of this team, it just proved that it was going to take time for this young team and more game experience. This was the Wildcats? scrimmage game that they did not get to play just before the season opener. It wasn?t pretty but it did give the players and the coaches a place to start.

Kennedale has not lost an opening game since the 2013 season when the lost to Crowley. That year the Wildcats went 1-4 in their first 5 games before going on a 5-0 run in district and finishing two deep in the playoffs.

Kennedale will play their next two games at home. The first is this coming Friday night, September 6th when the Cats host Midlothian Heritage followed by Alvarado on September 13th. Both games are set for 7:30 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
