With many police departments hit hard by coronavirus and police shootings remaining a high-profile issue in the U.S., the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2020?s Best & Worst States to Be a Police Officer. {{more: continue …}}

In order to determine the best states to pursue a career in law enforcement, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 28 key indicators of police-friendliness. The data set ranges from the median income for law-enforcement officers ($65,170 national mean) to police deaths per 1,000 officers to state and local police-protection expenses per capital.

Overall, Texas ranks 17 when compared to other states with 1 being best and 25 average. The top two states are Connecticut and North Dakota followed by New York. The bottom three are Alaska and Louisana with Arkansas at the bottom.

In specific categories, Texas ranks in top ten in average pay and the number of officers per resident. It remains in the top half in the median income for officers. In other categories Texas compared to others states drops down into the third group in cases solved, number of officer deaths, and in the violent crimes rates.
