Arlington man, woman who were killed in apparent murder-suicide identified

The two people who died in an apparent murder-suicide in Arlington on Monday have been identified as Luz Alvarez, 40, and Rafeal Barrera, 32, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner?s website.

Alvarez died about 6:30 a.m. from multiple gunshot wounds to her chest, and her death was ruled a homicide.

Barrera died later at John Peter Smith Hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the medical examiner. {{more}}

Arlington police officers who responded about 5:15 a.m. to a ?shooting-in-progress? call found Alvarez and Barrera in the home they shared in the 6800 block of Biondi Trail, said police spokeswoman Tiara Ellis Richard in a news release.

Barerra and Alvarez had been in a relationship for many years, and homicide detectives were investigating domestic disputes between the two, the news release said.
