Proving that the old adage about the “home court advantage” doesn?t always work, the Godley Lady Cat (26-6, 8-1), with a big crowd tagging along, visited the district leading Kennedale Lady Kats (22-10, 8-1) and went home with a victory and a tie for first in District 7-4A with one game left in the regular season.

It was payback for Godley as Kennedale had traveled to Godley a couple of weeks earlier to bring back a 58-47 win. The two teams have a healthy rivalry as Godley has long been noted for its girls program and Kennedale more recently. In the last TABC poll, Kennedale was #11 and Godley #12. Godley had been ranked in the top 10 until the Kennedale loss.

For Kennedale, it was one that got away from the injury riddled LadyKats. The first quarter was Godley?s as they went up 14-7 but the LadyKats stormed back with a 19 -8 second quarter to take the lead at the half 26-22. The Kats held that lead throughout the 3rd and into most of the 4th, pushing the lead up to 8 points at one juncture in the game.

The Kennedale LadyKats had frustrated the Godley team with aggressive play and kept the score down but it came at a cost. By the 4th quarter, the Kats were in foul trouble. Down the final stretch Kennedale was playing with 4 starters, each with 4 fouls, and a 5th with 3 and without the bench strength to provide relief.

In the end, Kennedale was forced to foul to try to get the ball back. It was a gamble that had to be taken but Godley responded with near perfect shooting from the foul line in the second half (18-20). Shooting foul shots has not been a strength for the LadyKats this year. In this game Kennedale were just over 53%.But, Godley did what they had to do by going 12 for 12 in the final seconds of the game to win going away.regular season ends next week …
For Kennedale Evie Whorley was held to 17 points under her game average of 22 with over half of those coming from the foul line. Lucy Benson added another 11 points followed by 9 from Sydnee Biscoe, 8 from Payton Williams and 4 from Dajia Simmons.

Makaila Tyer with 15 and Jaycee Pannell with 13 led the Godley Lady Cats in scoring.
Last Tuesday night, Kennedale defeated winless Diamond Hill-Jarvis 75-8. Whorley was top scorer with 20 followed by Benson 19, Simmons 9, Biscoe 8, Trinitee Warren 7, Williams 5, Robbie Johnson 4 and Kylie Embry 3.a flip or 1 game playoff …
Kennedale will finish the regular season Tuesday night at 5th place Alvarado (8-20, 2-7) while Godley plays at 3rd place Venus (22-7, 6-3). If the season ends in a tie, it could be decided with a flip of a coin or a neutral site playoff.
